Cégep André-Laurendeau adopts a global vision based on sustainable mobility

12 April 2022

Why is it important to ensure that your real estate development includes a mobility plan to fight against single-occupancy vehicules

With a college community of nearly 6,000 students and staff members, Cégep André-Laurendeau is located on a vast school campus that includes an elementary school, a vocational school, a daycare center, student residences, a theater and an swiming pool complex.

Several other real estate projects are also currently being developed and taking shape, including:

  • a new high school,
  • additions to existing buildings,
  • new sports facilities.

The projected population growth and development of the campus are accompanied by major mobility and greening issues: on the one hand, a growing pressure on parking spaces and on the other hand, a lack of green spaces.

This is how the expertise of MOBA, the alternative mobility department of Excellence industrielle Saint-Laurent, came into play! Our team was called upon to make a mobility diagnosis as well as review the best practices in active transportation infrastructures and parking management in order to implement a comprehensive plan outlining specific actions to be taken.

"Among the high value-added elements that MOBA brought to the project, we would like to emphasize its role as facilitator with the various stakeholders and partners involved, whether they be the boroughs and departments of the City of Montréal, the transportation companies [or] Communauto [...]. Throughout its mandate, the MOBA team was always available, meticulous and flexible, and provided sound advice: we therefore recommend it without hesitation to other organizations looking for support and guidance in carrying out a mobility project", said Sylvain Boucher, Architect, Professor of Architectural Technology at Cégep André-Laurendeau and Coordinator of major real estate development projects for the institution.

Ultimately, this mobility plan will serve to support a request for a reduction in regulatory parking requirements and will promote the greening of spaces as well as the maintenance of healthy lifestyle habits among the college community.

If your organization, whether a business or a public institution, is experiencing parking or accessibility issues, do not hesitate to call on our team!
