ExMO signs a collaborative agreement with 48e Nord

13 February 2018

Québec is well-known for its mining, a key economic sector.  According to the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, Québec is one of the most attractive places on the planet for mining development.  In fact, more than 20% of Canadian mining production is sourced from Québec.

The mining sector in Québec is therefore very attractive to foreign investors, not only for its ability to regenerate mineral substances, but also for its capacity to extract new metals and minerals.  In the 2017-2018 economic plan, the Québec government announced corporate tax reductions of up to $ 1.3 billion, primarily to encourage mining activities.

The  « Société du Plan Nord », in collaboration with other Québec government departments and organizations, has created the « Northern Plan » to promote the mining, forestry, energy, social, culture and tourism attributes north of the 49th parallel.  In addition, the « Northern Plan » fosters a favourable environment for mining development based on resource diversity.

In the West Island of Montréal, the mining industry also plays an important role in the local economy.  We can mention some notable companies in this field such as : Metso Minerals Canada, SEMAFO, DAWCO, Fordia, and also 5N Plus.

The above events have led a group of export agencies, including Export Montréal Ouest, to join forces and sign a collaborative agreement with 48e Nord International (Mines) in order to help companies sell internationally to the mining industry.  Up to 2300 companies currently serving the Québec mining industry can benefit from this agreement by developing their export potential.  The suite of export services offered in terms of preparation, training and counsel, even going on trade missions with the companies, will give them the edge they need to succeed internationally.
